The Add report window — templates

Last updated:

A template is a ready-made report for a common question: where leads come from, where deals get lost, whether ads pay off. The Add report window is the catalog of these templates. It answers “where do I start a report” before you build one by hand: you see in advance what the template will add to the project and which sources it is missing.

A template adds more than a report. It also adds what the report stands on: slices with their segments, and metrics. Once added, these are ordinary reports, slices and metrics of the project: you can edit them, and the template no longer touches them.

What you see here

The window has three columns.

On the left are the groups. Under Catalog are All templates and Ready for this project: a ready template has all its sources connected, and data is coming in. Below, under Needs a source, templates are grouped by source: Website, CRM and leads, Ads. The number next to a group is how many templates it has. Above the groups is the Find a template search.

In the middle are the cards. The first one is Empty report: a report with no sections, you add them yourself. Then come the templates: name, description, sources and contents — how many reports, slices and metrics the template adds. A source with a check mark is connected, and data is coming in. A source with an empty circle needs to be connected, or its data has not arrived yet. The line at the bottom of the window explains the marks.

On the right is the panel of the selected template, from top to bottom:

  • the Add button and the template description;
  • What to connect — the template’s sources and their state, with Connect and Check links;
  • Reports — which reports will appear, with each report’s sections under it;
  • Slices — the template’s slices and the number of segments in each;
  • Metrics — the metrics the template adds to the project’s metric catalog.

The number in a block’s title is how many rows it has.

Set it up for your question

Open the window

  1. In Reports, click + above the list of reports on the left. The Add report… item in the report switcher at the top of the page does the same.

Find a template

  1. On the left, choose a group or type a word into Find a template. The search looks at names, descriptions and sources.
  2. If the search finds nothing in the selected group, click Search all templates under the Nothing found message.

Check what the template will add

  1. Click a card — the template’s panel opens on the right.
  2. Look at What to connect. A source that is not connected has a Connect link: it closes the window and opens the catalog of connects on the right group. A connected source with no data has a Check link to the Connects section.
  3. Go through Reports, Slices and Metrics. Everything listed there will be created; marks appear only on exceptions — what the project already has and what won’t be added.

Add the template

  1. Click Add. Double-clicking a card does the same.
  2. The window closes, and the template’s first report opens. The other reports are in the list on the left.

To build a report from scratch, select the Empty report card and click Add.

How to read it

A template installs without connections too. If a source is missing, the report still appears, and its sections show what data they lack. Connect the source later — the numbers appear on their own.

“already exists” — the project already has this slice or this metric. The template uses the project’s one and does not add a second. “already exists: the project formula is different” — the project calculates this metric differently from the template. The report shows it by the project’s formula.

“won’t be added” — this part will not be created, and the reason is next to it:

  • the project has no such field — the section needs a field the project does not have;
  • the slice is turned off — the slice the section stands on is turned off in the project;
  • some fields are missing — the project lacks the fields this part needs.

“Slice ”…” has no matching segment — the report will be added without the filter” — the project already has this slice, but not the segment the template needs. The report appears and shows the whole project. To make the filter work, add the segment to the slice in Segments.

Numbers in new slices appear within a few minutes. A new slice first tags the data already collected — the line under the Slices block says so.

“already applied: N” — the template has been added to this project before, N times. Adding it again creates the reports anew, next to the earlier ones, and reuses the existing slices and metrics.

A report from a template lives on its own. The template does not overwrite your edits, and after Delete report it does not come back like a standard report: it has no link to the template. Names of reports, slices and metrics are written in the project’s language.

If there are no numbers

  • The Add button is greyed out, with “A project manager or owner can add a template” under it — your role cannot add templates. Ask the project owner to raise your role or to add the template themselves.
  • An error line under the button — the template was not added. The text names the reason; “Could not add the template” means the server gave no reason. Try again, and if it still fails, write to support and include the error text.
  • “No templates match this filter yet” — the selected group has no templates. Choose All templates.
  • Empty sections in the new report — a source of the template is not connected, or its data has not arrived yet. Open the window again and look at What to connect.
