Settings → Fields

Last updated:

The Fields screen is your project’s catalogue of dimensions: everything the numbers can be broken down and filtered by. Metrics answer “how much”, fields answer “broken down by what”.

What you see here

Fields are grouped by data source, and inside it by the entity they describe: Visit, Ads, CRM, CRM fields, Form fields, Site events.

Table columns:

  • Field — the name, the key on the second line and, if the source calls it something else, its original name.
  • Type — the value type: text, number, date, flag. It decides which operators are available in conditions.
  • Filled — the share of rows with a non-empty value over the measurement window.
  • Values — how many distinct values occurred, with examples.
  • Available in — filter · breakdown · segments · formulas. An honest list: a field that works in segment rules but never reached reports does not promise a filter.
  • Used in — where the field already appears: reports, segments, metrics, tables.
  • StateShown or Hidden.

Hidden fields are collapsed into the last row of a section — N more hidden.

Fields are created by the source, not by a person. The Add field… button in the section toolbar says exactly that: fields are brought in by a CRM, form or tracker sync, and this screen only sets how they are presented. If a field is missing, fill it in at the source and wait for the next sync.

Set it up for your question

The section toolbar has Search field, the Source, Entity, Status, Used and With data only filters, and View for the table height.

Switch a field on for reports

  1. Click a row — the editor opens on the right.
  2. In the Where the field works block, switch on what you need:
    • Allow filtering by this field — the field appears in the Filter menu of reports and sections;
    • Allow breakdown by this field — the field appears in the dimension list of the Breakdown section.
  3. Adjust the Name, Description and Group if needed — that is how the field looks in pickers.
  4. Save.

A breakdown by a free-text field produces thousands of rows — the hint under the checkbox says so. If the field has no values in report data, the breakdown checkbox is blocked, with the reason.

Edit a standard dimension

KO’s standard dimensions live in code, not in the project: the project gets its own row only on the first edit. So an edited field shows Edited standard in the Definition column with the list of differences, and Restore standard drops the edit entirely.

Hide what you do not need

Hide from pickers removes the field from selection lists but keeps it in the catalogue and in saved reports. That is not deletion: source fields cannot be deleted — the source brings them.

How to read it

“Filled” is measured over recent data and over rows, not leads. The cell hint spells the numbers out: “Non-empty in N of M scanned rows”.

A dash in “Filled” is not a zero. It means the field is absent from the data the fill rate is measured on (that happens with tracker event parameters). A “0%” where we did not look would lie more than a dash does.

A field may be filled in some sources and not others. Geo, device and page address exist only for site visits; step and pipeline only for leads. A condition on such a field shows “its own” data and zeroes the rest — which is why the Filter menu carries a note for it, and a field with no values at all is switched off there, with the reason.

Key in segment rules is a separate line in the editor with a “Copy the key” button: that is how the rule builder addresses the field.

Some labels come from the KO dictionary — renaming those changes nothing, and the editor says so.

If there are no numbers

  • “No fields found” — the filters or the search. Start by clearing the Status filter: most often the field is there but hidden.
  • The field you need is not in the catalogue — no source has brought it in. Fill it in the CRM or in the form and wait for the sync; the Add field… popover also has a Show hidden fields shortcut.
  • The field is there but not in the Filter menu — filtering is not enabled for it, or it has no values over the period. The reason is shown in the menu itself, under the field.
  • A custom field is empty for past periods — values of custom fields reach report data only for the fields enabled in the catalogue. Switch the field on and it starts filling up; for past periods a separate backfill is needed — write to us.
