The Add connect window

Last updated:

The Add connect window is the catalog of services KO can connect. It answers “what should I connect next, and what will it give my reports” before you add a connect: metrics, the way it connects and the update schedule are visible for every service in advance.

A connect is one service connected to the project: an ad account, a CRM, a website, telephony.

What you see here

The window has three columns.

On the left — groups. All services and Already in project, then Categories: Advertisement, CRM, Telephony and SMS and others. The number next to each is how many services the group has. Above the groups is the Find a service search.

In the middle — service cards: name and description. The in project mark means the service already has a connect in this project; the tooltip on the mark says how many.

On the right — the panel of the selected service, from top to bottom:

  • the Connect button and the service description;
  • What it brings to reports — the metrics that will appear in reports, under the same names as in the metrics catalog;
  • How it connects — the way it connects, the Updates line with the schedule on which KO collects data, and a link to the guide for this service, if there is one;
  • Reports that need it — templates from the Add report window that need this service;
  • Already in project — connects of this service in the project and their state: active, archived or not set up.

There are five ways to connect:

  • Sign in with the service account — you sign in to the service in its window and allow KO to read the data;
  • API key or login from the service account — you copy them from the service account into the connect settings;
  • Webhook URL: the service sends the data itself — you paste the URL from KO into the service settings;
  • Code on the website — the KO tracking script on the website pages;
  • Settings on the connect page — everything is set in the connect form in KO.

Set it up for your question

Open the window

  1. In Connects, click Add connect…. The + above the list of connects on the left does the same.

Find the service

  1. On the left, choose a category or type the name into Find a service.
  2. If the search finds nothing in the selected group, click Search all services under the Nothing found message.

Connect the service

  1. Click a card — the service panel opens on the right.
  2. Click Connect. A double-click on the card does the same.
  3. The window closes and the page of the new connect opens. Set it up following the guide for the service — the link is in the How it connects block.
  4. Once all options are set, switch the connection status to Active.

How to read it

“Continue setup” instead of “Connect” — the service already has a connect in the project that is not set up. The button opens it; a second one is not created. A second connect of the same service — for example, a second ad account — can be added once the first one is set up.

The “in project” mark does not mean data is coming in. The connect may be archived or not set up. Its state is in the Already in project block, and the connect name there opens its settings.

The marks in “Reports that need it” say when a report template becomes ready:

  • ready now — the project already has enough data for it;
  • ready once data comes in — this connect covers what the template is missing;
  • also needs: … — besides this connect, the template needs the sources named.

A template becomes ready with the first data from the connect, not at the moment you connect it.

“Updates: right away, on each event” — the service or the website sends the data itself, when the event happens. Other schedules — “every 6 h”, “once a day” — are the schedule on which KO collects data from the service.

If there are no numbers

  • The Connect button is greyed out with “Connects can be added by the project owner or manager” under it — your role has no right to add connects. Ask the project owner to raise your role or to connect the service themselves.
  • “The demo project is read-only” under the greyed-out button — this is the showcase. Connects are added in your own project.
  • An error line under the button — the connect was not added. The text names the reason; “Could not add the connect” means the server gave none. Try again, and if it still fails, write to support and include the error text.
  • “The integration catalog is empty — contact your manager” — the catalog has no services for your project. You cannot fix this yourself.
  • The service has no “What it brings to reports” block — the list of metrics for this service has not been compiled yet. The description or your manager will tell you what it gives.
