Set up a new project

Last updated:

A project in KO is one business’s data: its sites, ad accounts, CRM and reports. Set the project up before you connect anything — the timezone, the currency and the contact storage rule decide how every visit, lead and euro that arrives later is recorded, and two of them cannot be undone on data already collected.

Create the project

  1. In Projects, click Create project.
  2. Enter a name. Anything that identifies the business works — my-project.com or My Project. You can rename it later.
  3. Click Create project.

The project opens empty. It collects nothing until a connection is added, so the settings below are worth doing first.

Set the reporting basics

Open Project Settings and go to the Reports group.

  • Timezone — dates in reports are filtered and displayed in this time zone. Set it to the zone you report in, not the one your browser is in.
  • Currency — advertising and lead amounts are converted to it. Changing the currency later does not recalculate past days, so a project that switches currency mid-life carries two different scales in one report.
  • First day of the week — Monday or Sunday. Weekly and weekday reports start on the day you pick here.

Click Save.

Check how data is stored

The Data storage group shows the project’s current state and is not editable: How to store contact details and How to store IP addresses are read-only.

By default both contacts and IP addresses are kept as they arrive — that is what lead matching, deduplication and showing the contact in the interface run on.

If you need a different storage mode, write to technical support. It is deliberately not a switch in the interface: changing the storage changes webhook URLs and integration links, and data already collected may become unavailable. Which is why it is worth settling before the first source is connected rather than after the project has leads in it.

Set the project language

In the Interface group, Language is the project’s default language — KO uses it for what it does in the background, not for your own interface.

The Data processing group below it holds Lead phones. Leave it on No processing unless support tells you otherwise; it rewrites incoming phone numbers, and a rule that does not match your market corrupts them instead of fixing them.

Connect your first data source

Two connections make a report that answers “what paid for this lead”:

  • the website — a tracking script that records where visitors came from, plus a webhook that receives form submissions;
  • the ad account — Facebook Ads, Google Ads and the like, which bring in spend, impressions and clicks.

Either one alone gives you half the picture: leads with no source, or spend with no outcome.

Check that the project is ready

  • Project Settings shows your values after a reload — the Save button reads Saved when the change went through.
  • The project appears in Projects under Active projects.
  • Connects opens the integration catalog rather than an error.

If it doesn’t add up

Settings do not save. Saving project settings needs the Manager role, and deleting a project needs Owner. With a lower role the form accepts the change and the value returns to its previous state after a reload.

Money in old reports looks wrong after a currency change. It is not recalculated — past days keep the amounts converted at the old setting. Pick the currency you report in before the first ad account is connected.

Day totals shifted after a timezone change. Reports are filtered and displayed in the project timezone, so moving it moves the boundary between days for the whole history.

The contact or IP storage mode will not change. Those fields are read-only — the mode is switched by technical support, see “Check how data is stored”.
